Fractional CFO

An external finance director who works on the owner’s side. The month closes quickly and by the book, and the numbers arrive before decisions are made, not after.

Who it is for

  • The company has accountants but no finance director: statutory reports are filed on time, yet there are no management numbers.
  • A group with entities abroad: several jurisdictions, currencies and accounting standards, and no single picture of the group.
  • An owner preparing for a transaction or talks with a bank who wants the numbers in order beforehand.
  • A full-time CFO is not yet justified: a part-time CFO for a few hours a week is enough.

What you receive

Closing procedure

Who prepares what and by when. The month closes on the same day every time, without last-minute manual reconciliations.

Monthly management pack

P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and key KPIs in one document the owner can rely on.

Regular meetings

At least an hour a week: we go through the numbers, the variances from plan and the decisions that follow.

What a fractional CFO does

Close diagnostic

We find where days are lost and errors appear in the period close.

Procedure and calendar

Roles, deadlines and data formats for the accounting team and business units.

Management reporting

P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and KPIs, comparable from month to month.

Budget and cash flow

Plan, actuals and liquidity forecast; a payment calendar.

Oversight of accounting

We review the work of accountants and contractors and set their tasks.

Banks and investors

We prepare materials and attend meetings on the owner’s side.

Stages

  1. Diagnostic — 2–3 weeksWe study the accounting, the reporting and the closing process. The outcome is a list of issues and a plan.
  2. ProcedureBased on the diagnostic, we fix the closing procedure and the contents of the management pack.
  3. Ongoing workMonth by month: close, reporting pack, meetings, budget and liquidity tasks.

Terms

Billed for actual hours: if there is less work in a given month, you pay less. Before we start we scope the work; the small advance for scoping is credited against later fees. The budget is agreed up front and treated as a ceiling.

Statutory bookkeeping and tax compliance are not part of the service. Where needed, we bring in trusted local partners and supervise their work.

The CFO and the transaction

A buyer, an investor and a bank all look at the same thing: how far the company’s numbers can be trusted. CFO work is exactly the preparation for that scrutiny. When the owner decides to sell a stake or raise capital, a company with orderly reporting passes due diligence faster and negotiates from a stronger position. From there we provide M&A advisory and capital raising.

Example

A group of two companies in one country and a third in the UAE. The month closes on the 25th, the owner sees profit only in statutory accounts and collects cash balances from the banks by hand. The task of the fractional CFO is to shorten the close, build a single management pack for the group and a 13-week payment calendar.

A typical situation, shown for illustration.

Questions and answers

How does a fractional CFO differ from an accountant?

An accountant is responsible for bookkeeping and statutory filings. A CFO answers to the owner: how much the company really earns, whether there will be enough cash in three months, which decision is more profitable. The CFO briefs the accounting team and reviews its work but does not replace it.

Do you work remotely?

Yes. We work remotely with clients worldwide and meet in person in Yekaterinburg and Dubai. The format does not require presence in the office: we need access to data and regular meetings.
